Did you meet your significant other from a game? I did. It was an interesting time to happen and very un-expected.
It happened during a Destiny raid! Yep!
The raid: King’s Fall
There isn’t much to the story to tell but it is always amusing!
What happened was I was part of a raid with a guy named Chemdawg. He loved to raid, like a lot! I don’t recall exactly how I met him in D1, would likely have been through some other people I was raiding with at the time, and he just seemed like a fun a dude! Anyways, KF was the raid we were doing and were up to the War Priest encounter. One of the members of the team had to leave so we needed a replacement. While, I had quite a few people I could ask it seemed Chem had way more. He did after all run raids not just with friends but also LFG constantly so he had a ton, and I mean a TON of people he could get. One person he asked to join was a guy named ShadowRaven.
For the War Priest encounter I’d always preferred defending the left side and running left plate. Raven, however seemed to also want to do that side, and me being the lesser experienced raider (at least to him! lol) he made me MOVE OFF MY SPOT on left. I have done the encounter many times prior to this so while I do have a slight preference to do left side, I can do the same for middle and right. It just annoyed me (nobody knew, and it’s been a bit of a running gag ever since) at the way he came in and acted like he belonged there! A second running joke, was just before he joined Chem said the following to me:
‘Oh, by the way this guy I’m inviting just so you know he has a thing for asians women.’ – I thought he was kidding but it turned out to be a hilarious warning.
Another running joke which is from Raven’s end, was he and some other friends sometime before had always joked about the idea of ‘picking up a girl in a raid’. They’d even made bets on it!
Ever since that raid though myself and Raven have gotten along pretty well. It was more like having a new best friend to talk to, someone that would always be around when needed. And during this time it was helpful to me because my interest in terms of guys I liked while playing Destiny was on others. As those started to fall away a bit; Raven was always the constant one, we were always talking, and he was part of a few more raid I was in after that King’s Fall. Even when others left the PSN party it was just us it never felt awkward or different. Like, even if we were not playing the same game things always felt great.
All of this happened in 2015 as well and within a few short months following that raid we went from being PSN friends to eventual Facebook friends. If you ask Raven, he’ll say I was the one that stalked his Facebook! I beg to differ and say he did it to me Heh he! Not that it matters now, yet still a funny little note. I’ve know Raven for a long time and when it started going from friends to partners is really a bit of a blur. I was also still friends with some of the previous guys I had mini type relationships so not a lot happened with me and Raven in this time. It wasn’t really until later in Destiny 1 and into Destiny 2 things changed quite a lot and around 2017 he asked me to be his girlfriend. I didn’t hesitate as by this pint I’d really liked him, so things had progressed. He is very different to the other four, and he never pushed or rushed the situations. Not once.
