Generally when you run a raid you should feel comfortable with the players. Of course sometimes it depends on the chemistry make-up of the team. but overall it should feel like a good time. This, was not the case following a completion of The Desert Perpetual Raid on July 5th, where the vibes in general felt wrong and wasn’t what I expected.
The following players were:
-UnbrokenDredgenRevoker (myself)
ObsidianSuccession (Raven)
Shadow (ninja)
Crimson
Conchcasts
Hawksniped
Prior to this day in the lead up to it the discord was in a bit of discussion about the raid, both Raven and Conach had a very lively discussion which I also got involved in on what is the hardest part of DP. Now, let me firstly say that there isn’t really a hardest encounter of the raid but there are challenging ones, with regards to mechanics. For me we have found the Hydra to be where a lot of people fail and struggle. Out of all the encounters it is the one (for mind) where any mess up can cause a complete wipe and re-start of the encounter. tie timing for execution is crucial. In some situations a quick recovery keeps thigns going and the fight can continue but even that still requires execution. Conach’s argument is Hydra is easy and Wyven is harder. Raven disagreed and feels Wyven is easier and Hydra is harder. Personally for me, we have spent ht most amount of time in the raid at Hydra more than Wyven. The times we’ve gotten stuck at Wyven is simply due to people not being able to dunk Cronus because the minters needed aren’t spawning fast enough (ad clearing isn’t quick enough) call outs are a mess, the jumper is struggling to survive. Now you compare this to the Hydra fight where again ad clearing takes too long, or if a miss call out to the people in rooms leads to the wrong eyes being shot, the outside unable to shoot the correct eyes on the outside –suppression fails, or when it comes toDPS the rotation isn’t done correctly / quick enough.
I was the one that insisted on Ninja doing this raid, because according to him he hasn’t done it yet. I saw this as an opportunity to show him the raid isn’t as bad as he has experienced on Contest. yes its hard but with a pretty good team anything he’ll see just how simple it is. It definitely took a bit of convincing but he’d finally agreed we could show him the raid. Conach invited himself, Darth decline (but it wasn’t obvious he decline if I recall), Hawk whom I believe only recently joined or came back (was he in the clan before not sure), Crimson (that annoying gf of Ninja’s) seemly invited herself. Let me comment that I didn’t really mind who joined the main thing was ensuring Ninja agreed to do the raid, and the rest would take care of itself. there was a certain feeling that he wasn’t keen to and it felt like he made it seem we were pushing him to do a raid he didn’t like. Again he could have jsut flat out said no and given reasons but those seemed vague, yet I had a feeling the ‘un-interested’ vibe was starting to kick on. Funny since all of this was only being discussed via discord text.
Eventually the day came and it was a Sunday which he said suited him best fair enough. Before we go into it I’ll want to talk about Crimson’s attitude in general. I do not know what it is about this individual but her attitude has never sat right with e. One of my earliest encounters being a raid with her goes back a bit forget when but I do know it was in the Last Wish raid. From the second I stepped into that party for that raid I immediately got sense she didn’t like me, I have no idea why. I can speculate and assume that it may have something to do with mine and Ninja’s pervious dealings in Destiny.. true we have history but life moves on, and that history is long gone. and we aren’t even really friends as such more like acquaintances, of like I know you and you know me but it is as fast as it goes. Overall I have never felt like she is a likeable person and I remember the way she talked in the raid was very much coming across the whole: I’m better than you’ at this game type of thing. Not exactly a first impression you should give to someone. I’m not new to raiding either I know my raids I”m not amazing but I know my raids I have enough clears and experience in them to know what to do. I feel no need to flex anything on anyone (unless they piss me off to a point). From that point on I made it clear I didn’t want to be a part of any raid if she was involved thigns jsut felt off and I never really spoke to or played with him since that point until recently.
These past few weeks raiding them with them was ok, I did my best to be nice, be fun and jsut chill a bit. Having Raven join also made it easier. I still didn’t like her and I could tell every raid she had to give off this sort of stiff attitude. I choose to ignore it and just got along with everyone else which wasn’t difficult. But the bad vibes from her kept going on and on. In the raids themselves I could see how both of them kept playing this whole thing of: we need to stick together in certain encounters they refused to be split up. It was strange, again tried not to worry about it too much and did what I needed to do. However, the way she was acting didn’t sit well with me for weeks on end even in the discord I could see what was going on with her and how she acted. I ignored it as best I could. I mainly talked to Ninja in the discord, sometimes Darth, sometimes Conach and others but I avoided her at all costs. Right up until this last raid with DP I had enough of it and didn’t want to be apart of it anymore.
When we got to Hydra Conach was explaining to Hawk (whom was new to the raid) and in a way also to Ninja. The raid didn’t’ start well in that the couple were AFK for a lot of the time at the start so it was very boring. Raven wasn’t really doing lots of explaining. He was basically chatting with Conach, Hawk and Darth (whom was in the part but not in the raid). For whatever reason Ninja still wasn’t talking and neither was Crimson.
Please note that Coach has around 19 clears of DP, Crimson around 31, Me 37, Raven 36.
Once we finally started the encounter started I immediately noticed something felt a miss. Firstly Conach and Crimson assigned themselves (without even asking) to one part of the mechanic, so neither Raven or myself even got a word in. Crimson was clearly struggling to even made nightside herself (and we didn’t even have feats on btw). On wipes she had a whinge about who was calling for her end which was me by the way, and she couldn’t even be bothered to say my name, or ask how was I calling None of that. Total dismissal towards me. I, said nothing. Then for some reason after a restart, her bf Ninja decided to completely take over my part, didn’t even ask me or anything just completely over took it. I was instantly mad! See if she or him just said: oh can he try to learn how to do it, or can he cal instead, I wouldn’t have minded. At least ASK. But no.. For someone the said: ‘ I haven’t done this raid’ he seemed pretty adept at doing a mechanic!!!! I was very suspicious of this, again I didn’t comment but I did make a mention of what he was doing and I didn’t know what was going on. Didn’t get an apology about it, she didn’t say she’d asked him to do it, she didn’t mention she was showing him what to do. Silence. Complete Silence from both of those two, no proper communication just some ‘secret hush hush its between them type thing. By doing this it was actually causing more confusion then needed because Raven (whom was doing the same mechanics as me in the middle) was now unsure of who to listen for when calling. What a way to make an encounter more confusing then it needed to be when you saw callers for NO REASON, all because she was being a utter bitch over it and couldn’t even handle her side of the encounter by herself (like she claims she can). Once people got a hand on the first part of the mechanics it was then onto the second part which is the DPS method and that can take a little adjusting for those that are new, the overall feeling was this part went better, I was watching Ninja very closely at this point and noticed he wasn’t struggling with the DPS part, again it raised suspicion for me, I decided not to comment and let it be.
Then it was off to do the Hobgoblin, if I recall Raven did a little more explaining in this part as Conach wasn’t sure the way we are used to doing it, he added his bits and pieces; both made it simple enough so it wasn’t confusing. I could only go off Hawk’s understanding and it seemed like he knew what to do, and his role was simplified. Once again the stupid annoying couple were SILENT, not a word. The assumption was perhaps they were looking after the kids, the pets or something else. You would think if they were doing that rather then listening to Raven and Conach they could at least have spoken up, now as I look back (I have the twitch clip of the whole raid, and you only hear me anyway) and reading his recent responses to me it was clear they were very dismissive of the rest of us in the raid. Raven did a good chunk of the explaining and the biggest part of the mechanics everyone else really only had to kill ads and dunk. The only additional part was me and Conach helping him for the second half of his main mechanic which was calling to tell where the others needed to dunk. So the easy job went to the two newbies, Hawk and Ninja. Personally I thought they went fine both, no idea what Crimson was doing, she didn’t talk alot, basically acted like a mute in my mind. Maybe she was pissed off she didn’t get to do mechanics or wasn’t asked, maybe she only preferred to do ads who the hell knows. If you want to do something at least speak up don’t just sit silently. I also added a bit of my part during the explanation of this encounter as I do have a certain role and I spoke up and also reminded people when dunking in the conductors the way it is called 1 through to 5 and left to right. Despite me, Raven and Conach in parts giving as full an explanation as possible it was also obvious the best way to understand a raid mechanic is to attempt it get a feel for it. gives better visuals and its you put into practice what you ahve read/ watched prior. Going through the Hobgoblin encounter is proof enough everyone had caught on quickly to make it simply and not a hassle. So, if either Ninja, Crimson hell even Conach were thinking we made it sound waffly or complicated than what they think, video will disapprove their opinion. Hobby was easy and done because the main mechanics were run by three people that actually know waht to do don’t fuck around, and if Crimson and Ninja didn’t like being bossed around well BOOFUCKING WHOOO. One of you is being TAUGHT THE RAID, it is not our issue that you refused to listen to better players and your shitty arrogant little fat ass girlfriend wanted to be bossy and only tell you and ignore the rest of us. That is between you and her.
Onto the next was Queen or Chicken as some of us like to call it. By this point I already had a sense this raid was getting boring just from the vibe alone. Myself and Raven did our best to keep this alive, he was chatting and being himself. Sadly the rest of them showed little respect for it. My feeling was, I just wanted this done and get out of here the raid so far felt miserable, and I’ve not really felt like this about any raid in quite sometime. I’d mentioned earlier in this piece, we been raiding with them for a bit, and even with those raids I always felt something was a miss. Like the fun was non-existent, conversations while ok were not exactly very enjoyable, it always felt like it came down to someone needing to flex on their DPS, or their clears or their seals Ala a pissing contest. For Wyven there isn’t overall a lot of mechanics with it, and the way we have done it has been efficient. Oh and there is no wrong way or right way for any raid encounter. Nobody’s start is the best, nobody’s Strat is the rose. The Strats employed are waht is most efficient to the whole team. For us, we like to run the Wyven mechanics with two shooters for the boxes not three. Yes yo can raise the argument three box shooters makes it faster (I won’t disagree); however a third person can cause a few issues.
- Is any of your three shooters can get harassed by the boss throwing their timing off
- One of the shooters has to contend with ads and mina tours spawning in their area
- The booping part of the mechanic means at least one or all three shooters struggling to get their timing correct.
But, as I said before it doesn’t mean having a third person is bad, and in contrast to the three things I listed above; a third box shooter can also be of help in those areas. What we learnt over time is having only tow shooters means more ad-control better handling of grabbing the chronus when needed and less chances of messing up the box shooting. Remember folks, for this particular encounter there is already one player that doesn’t play a part, their sole responsibility is jumping and climbing the platforms. Their entire job is to climb, grab the vex conduits, handle air-flying ads while dong so that eventually leads to DPS stage. From waht I recall from this part is Conach didn’t really enjoy the idea of having two shooters he finds it slower and takes longer. Eventually though he was humbled (I think) when it clearly showed two shooters works just as well as having three. The others were not struggling to handle the ads or get the Cronus to dunk, DPS worked fine and as intended. The constant silence from Ninja and Crimson was defeating, I ignored it was best I could but it was so obvious it makes me wonder if everyone else noticed and just pretended like it was normal. Not even a thank you from Ninja especially, not even a comment from Crimson. Acting like doing these encounters as efficiently as possible was an issue or somehow beneath her.
At last came the boss!!! I also had this feeling Conach was starting to not like the fact that me and Raven, to a certain extent was now over-taking the teaching role of the raid and relegating him to only speak when needed or asked. If he felt that way, that would be his issue. We weren’t deliberately doing it, we’ve just been in this raid more often and have a better handle on his 18 (at the time). Our roles within the raid are to communicate, so that is what we are doing within the encounters. We asked if people needed further explanation, a refresher none of them replied. Every so often Conach did ask how we do things, and Raven was happy to tell him the way we knew. I don’t think Conach had a problem with it, or if he didn’t he wasn’t saying it As a quick side note, when it comes to explaining encounters everyone has a different method of doing it, some make it short and sweet, others want to explain every bit and miss nothing, and some just do it in parts and forget others. It doesn’t matter really they get the gist of the information out. If someone doesn’t get, ask again , get clarification. Doesn’t hurt to raise your concerns, raise your voice and speak up if you don’t understand. Not a single word from Ninja. None. Crimson remained silent attitude again. Hawk was the only one that replied to Raven or Conach when needed.
With the final boss Raven asked Hawk and Ninja to come down to the bottom to activate the vex cube to start the finale. Only Hawk did, when I looked Ninja barely moved from the top didn’t want to move. I thought it odd, because we love having first timers activate to start the fight and see the animation of the boss its pretty cool. So if someone hasn’t seen it, we like them to see it first go. My comment on it was that he was hiding in the back corner. Now, to reiterate this we had FOUR PEOPLE that have done this rad and have some completions. Me, Raven, Conach and Crimson. However the little female bitch refused to depart of the mechanics of final boss. Again utter silence. Conach was annoyed that Raven and myself preferred to do single dunking rather than double dunking. Now, we have actually only done double dunking ONCE, and yes it was easy it was quicker and wasn’t at all difficult. But; in past runs of DP when we have offered to do double dunks players aren’t keen on learning it, mainly worried they would stuff up. So fair enough to not make people stress out we take the safer, slightly longer method. It works so I don’t see what the problem is. Single does the job. If Crimson got off her FAT ASS AND OFFERED to be part of the mechanics we would have done doubles easy. But no, like I said just before she didn’t offer. So Conach not liking single method should have spoken to Crimson but he didn’t, so whatever. He just had to suck it up and do single. After all, he could have done what he did form the Hydra encounter just asked her straight out whaat was she going to do. Why he never did after that one I’ll. Ninja, Crimson and Hawk were relegated to just staggering the boss (easy really) and ads and then DPS simple shit; guess those two didn’t like it, as if not being in-charge of a raid is such a bad thing!
Thankfully the final encounter was done in two phases and it was over. In the finale part with the boss dead he drops down after and again for first timers we joke and say they need to stay up there for a special secret or something of the like. Of course we have to hope others don’t ruin the fun…but of course they dd. Fucking Crimson ruined the whole thing getting everyone to jump off before the boss dropped. They died anyway so it was funny but not the funny we wanted. Immediatelyonce rewards were collected and I took a couple of screen shots I left. I just couldn’t be bothered anymore. I was tired, annoyed and disappointed.
Later when I checked the Discord achievements run I was, pissed because Ninja, whom by the way said he had never completed the raid, only attempted it on contest mode, did not have the fallen baby icon that in discord if it appears next to a player’s name following an end game activity like a raid where it is a CARRY. He did not have that. Only Hawk did. I was livid, because it also confirmed my earlier suspicions that he had done the raid.
He has insisted since then that it was his first run and I have doubts about it. Since then I’ve seen that both him and Crimson have a CONTEST clear of DP via the cheat / cheese method, which is why he didn’t have the fallen carry icon after this run. He went on to say to me this was his first run of the raid. Ok true it might hav been his first official run from start to end no skips and no just final boss. But the fact you attempted it on contest mode and have the emblem to prove it already tells me that you have seen some part of the raid before so already know something about it.
Talk about shit vibes all around!
Disappointed. I and Raven have not raided with them since at almost two weeks. And to be honest I’m glad. I don’t want to associate with cheaters and liars.
