First of, I’m not a bitter person, or at least I try not to be. I do get annoyed and I can hold grudges for a period of time. There are just certain situations in life where you shouldn’t just ‘forgive and forget’ especially if it means something to you.
So this brings me to what I want to write about. Being let down by friends. Has it happened to you? It’s definitely happened to me. Two of my former best friends really hurt me a long time ago. I was young, still growing up, and to find out my so called friends were lying constantly and basically using me. I won’t go into details and all that but let’s just say it’s not nice to find out about when you’re young. Since then I don’t trust a lot of people easily, I do talk ti people and have fun, make friends etc but other then that I’m always a little weary. I have a group of people I’m probably closest too because of common interests or knowing them for a while but that’s about it.
They say friends are meant to be forever, well its the perception. Yeah, wish it was true! Guess not.
With social media these days I think we easily forget how to communicate with one another, nothing is personal anymore and we just send, whatever we want to say through FB, Twitter…etc. So improper but it’s the trend.
Hence why I deliberately in the days leading up to and on my birthday the other week I kept my timeline wall viewable to everyone. I did it as a test. I knew some of my friends with friends with other people I knew so if one writes the other notices. So yes I was testing out a few to see what would happen.
I was impressed by those who wrote on the wall and I appreciate it. I was getting messages from people I’ve known a short time. They are lovely for even doing so and I’ll always appreciate it.
However I was most annoyed at those who didn’t. I mean, ffs it is not that hard to just send a message is it not? Am I taking this too seriously? You might think so, I don’t and that’s because I think its common courtesy. I get people have lives and are busy, but i think it’s a silly excuse esp since I know these people who didn’t say Happy Birthday were still surfing on FB and Twitter. I can single out three individuals there’s a few others as well. I don’t buy the ‘i’m busy excuse’ or ‘I forgot’ or ‘I didn’t know’. I can understand the whole ‘we haven’t been friends long’ and that’s fine. Any other excuses though. Nope. Terrible
I am very disappointed in these people, and you know what I have every right too. Because if they can’t do it for a birthday there’s no use doing it for Christmas or New Year. As for invites anywhere? Forget it. Why should I bother when they can’t do something so simple themselves? Argh anyway…
