(this is a repost from previous blog)
All righty guys I wanted to vent this recent LFG raid experience in Destiny. Now I’ve had a few others that weren’t great either but this one I feel tops those by quite a bit. Long post below!!
So recently we decided to do Vault of Glass. Easy raid, pretty chill we didn’t need anything from it mainly doing it for fun. Since no one on wanted to join we figured we’d go into LFG for it. Found three others relatively quickly and added them in, two were console players and one on PC and also two of the three were in the same clan. So not to different to use three being in the same clan. So anyway off the raid we headed and it seemed that despite the raid LFG description saying Mic preferred / required the two from the same clan (console + pc players) were not using a mic or a headset; well I assume they could at least hear us talking, because they did do text chat and did respond occasionally.
The players for this raid are as follows:
Unbroken
Obsidian
Mutz
Ganjah
Luna
Dawn.
Ganjah was one random, Luna and Dawn the other two randoms and both from the same clan. Ganjah was the only one of those three willing to use a mic to talk. He wasn’t super chatty but that’s ok we don’t expect people to be chatty, as long as they can respond for call outs or at least acknowledge when we ask a question. This one was very good and very cooperative. Can’t say the same for the other two!
So just before we landed into the raid. Dawn had made a comment about No 6 player son one plate. I was like huh? Since when do you Open the Vault part with six players just on one plate? In all my time of doing this raid, I don’t think I’ve ever seen that. Either they saw it coz they played with people that did it for some unknown reason; or perhaps they meant something else? None of us knew so basically, to me we just ignored and got on with it.
The next encounter was to Defend the Confluxes so everyone splits off into teams of two because it starts with one, then two then all three. For me, I personally can defend whichever side I am not fussed; however I do take left alot and I did say this; but apparently Dawn and Luna completely ignored it and they (without even typing in the text chat) both went left. So, I decided to be nice and let them have left and took middle. All was going well when all of a sudden in the text chat Dawn had made a post in the text chat that said the following:
“Is there a trans here by any chance?”
“Im looking to do my transition and I had some questions about it. Im a huge trans” – now the ending of that sentence I can only assume was along the lines of: a Huge trans fan or something similar. The response we gave was Nope and that was it. For me I felt that to be a rather uncomfortable thing to reply to and my team mates perhaps felt the same. It is a difficult comment to make purely because whatever we responded ‘Dawn’ might get easily offended; and as we know in this day and age, whatever you say; someone somewhere is going to be offended.
Once Conflux encounter was done it was onto Oracles; and Obsidian was the one to give a run down of it just in case people forget.
Side note here: while we, as Guardians have done all these raids in Destiny countless times; doesn’t mean we will remember every single detail if we haven’t done said raid in, months so a little reminder is always helpful. Me personally I’m pretty good with knowing all raid encounters despite time away from raids.
While Obsidian was doing his explanation; Luna was hounding the chat with his name, and even on a couple of ocassions shortened the word Nigga to nga so it wouldn’t get blocked in the text chat. Eventually it appeared Lua wanted to do Oracles himself. (If these two, Dawn and Luna were females I’ll apologise for the wrong assumption) but I’ll just have to go with it since they weren’t on mics and only using text chat. Anyhow; Luna kept insisting he wanted to solo oracles; we decided well if that is his request then sure let him do it. I had no idea why he was wanting to to it alone; because having help doesn’t’ mean you are a useless player. So it started and he actually did well; it was only when it got to the 6th and 7th round he got a bit unstuck due to ‘lack of ammo’ and, I guess to his credit he admitted for ruining it and causing a wipe. Hey; none of us were really bothered by it. Besides it is not like any of us are aiming for Flawless so who cares. I will add, though that with random LFG players they may have a thing with wiping in raids or dungeons. And I mean, like they like to get through without the death wipe because it ruins their fast time or something of the sort. I was kinda worried about it when we did wipe because of such LFG mentality. Fortunately; this did not happen and on we went, and oracles was completed. Also, during one of the rounds; someone may have shot an oracle, and Dawn got annoyed by it saying in the text chat: Who shot mid. lol I mean who really cares??As long as the Oracles are shot in the correct order; it shouldn’t matter who got it.
Next up is Templar and of course those two had s something to say as well. Luna wanted to run relic, again we didn’t mind. Although I’m the one that usually runs it for the raid; it seemed to not matter even if I said it (lol based on the conflux part earlier), while on the other hand Dawn type a message along the lines of: Watch me solo DPS. I giggled / rolled my eyes at that. I mean sure he / she can do it, be interesting to see it happen. Not saying someone hasn’t done it (there are probably videos out there maybe?) . In any case we all chipped in for DPS on Templar so I guess Dawn couldn’t really say anything!
Off it was through the Gorgon Maze; and we prefer if everyone sticks together but of course not Dawn and Luna as expected ran off ahead of everyone else. From what I could gather they were doing something that allowed them to sneak past and cause the Gorgons to disappear. Don’t ask; I got no idea how it happened so let’s just move on. Oh and by the way they were also going on about various weapons to use? I wasn’t sure there just seemed to be some ranting in the text chat with different weapons getting a mention. However as we got to the next area which involved the short jumping puzzle and as this was happening both players began to ramble on about how to do the Gatekepper part with the plates and portals. The standard call outs were Left Mars, Right Venus. These two decided to use different names aka Pakistan and Middle East. HUH? WTF. I mean I sort of understood what they meant but it was really weird. Was this their way of highlighting the racist part? I’m sure I just assumed. Also it was at this point we lost Ganjah, for some odd reason he left. Didn’t say why we can only assumed he got what he needed; but who knows he may have gotten sick and tired of the other two. I was starting to tire of them a bit but kept my mouth shut. As they went on and on about it the text chat looked like they were actually debating with each other LOL. During the encounter itself both didn’t want any of us entering, even the person grabbing the relic. No idea what they were doing in the portals that was allowing them to kill the Minatour that spawned without breaking its shield with said relic, the chicken I understand dealing with it easy. So basically us three sat outside and those two were in each portal. But then following a wipe coz one of them (believe it was Luna) forgot part of the encounter; they then declared they wanted to do BOTH PORTALS SOLO. I was like huh? What? How? I didn’t say it but I was thinking it. To my knowledge you can’t (but I could be proven wrong and I am sure I have seen clips of someone or many solo Gatekeeper so eh…assuming Luna knows the strat for it. Anyway we went ahead and he did it himself on both sides I guess good job. Doesn’t mean I wasn’t suspicious over it. A small thing is that while all this was going on the rest of us was defending the outside again easy to do and randomly I popped my super outside one of the areas where theOverload Minatour spawns. Dawn had instantly killed it.
Now came the final part of Atheon and its a very easy encounter; truth be told probably the easiest final raid boss fight ever (we can have that debate about the other raid bosses another time!). Now, like previous encounters in this raid we are aware everyone has very different ways of doing it so calling oracles for this part is no exception. From our perspective the way we have always called the oracles is as follows:
Front Left, Front Middle, Front Right, Back Right, Back Middle and Back Left. And for visual reference we call the front the area closest to the door we entered from (starting at Gate Keeper door entrance) and the back is towards the stairs of the Glass Throne (and for all you D1 raiders) where Atheon originally walks down when he spawns in).
The encounter started but there was no communication text-wise from either Dawn or Luna about how they would go about co-ordinating the call out / shooting of oracles with us so we jsut assumed they knew everything the same as we did. Big mistake! First teleport was myself, Obsidian and Luna and in the text chat Dawn typed: 34. What the heck did that mean?!?! I’ve got no clue but it appeared Luna did, Dawn and Mutz were the ones outside by the way so despite Dawn typing the numbers Mutz was also calling out for us. So when Luna shot all three oracles correctly, did he do it base don Mutz’s call or on the numbers Dawn wrote? I’m unsure but I assumed it was off the call. I also noticed that unlike other relic holders; Luna decided to stay on the central platform rather than go towards the front of the room. Again. no drama with changing it to suit them more than us as long as they remembered to do the cleanse. On the third call of oracles Luna messed up and missed so it was a fail and a wipe.
It was then at this point Luna and Dawn started losing it in the text chat over the Oracle call outs; saying things along the lines of: No one calls Dawn will call, learn numbers not positions, and using what we assumed were swear words that is not allowed in the chat as it came up as music symbols. While you cannont hear what our replies were in voice chat (no idea why that occured), myself, Mutz and Obsidan were getting a bit frustrated with them about this very issue of the calls. I did make a comment about just letting them do whatever they wanted since they think their better than everyone else and being complete ass-holes about it.
After that for the next few minutes both continued to act like I said, ass-holes causing wipes with comments like: ya’ll can do it, you don’t need us apparently. And dying at the start so when its just us three left ot be teleported the wipe will automatically happen because no one is alive on the outside. Luna’s other comment suggested they are only required for damage, and that we could leave and it would be better for them. Second wipe happened and I had enough and left. Anyone that’s played Destiny (1 and 2) with me over the years knows I love to run raids and I enjoy doing them and will always stay to the end no matter how long it might take. I’m not one to rage quit out of a raid but this behaviour from those two, tested my patience enough. I heard from my two team mates later that I was called a Trans by one of the two players.
After that experience I don’t know, how much I want to return to doing a raid via LFG / Fireteam Finder again. This was not the only poor experience I’ve had, as had one from Desert Perpetual and even King’s Fall previously (and going far back as Crown of Sorrows).
Certainly puts a dent in random LFG raids for the future not just for Destiny but any other game in the same vein.
