Hockey story alert (old post)

(first posted 17th October 2014)

Yes, you heard the title right. I have a pending new hockey story. LOL. Indeed it is another one…just one more I have to add to the pile. 😛 I haven’t decided if this is going to be short or long. As with writing anything I just let it go and see how it turns out.

Now you are probably thinking why in the heck I am opening up another hockey-related story when I have quite a few already including of course ‘Heart of a Mustang’ (Pat O’Kane) and ‘Olympic Memory’ (Zach Parise) plus that series (Ashley Pearson) and the half attempt at Love of a Griffin (Tomas Tatar / Tomas Jurco). I can’t give you a decent answer because hell I really don’t know. Those stories are sitting there in my folder; I can see them and part of me wants to do them but alas if the time or my mind set isn’t right then I ain’t going to try to work on them because it may stuff it up.

Anyway back onto this new one because it’s the whole reason I am writing this blog today. This one involves a different player to the ones I am writing in those other stories; yep and the player in question this time is current Dallas Star and former Boston Bruin; Tyler Seguin. He is a player I like and have for quite sometime…well at least since the year he got drafted. Haha. And in case you were wondering he was the 2nd overall pick with the first being Taylor Hall (whom, by the way I kind of like also!).

While I have always tried to keep a close eye on Seguin, it can be difficult because with me in hockey or any sport for that matter everything is about the team not always about the individual player so if their team is not one I support regularly then, I think it would be fair to say I don’t always know what the player is up to; however in Seguin’s case because I always had a bit of a soft spot for Boston it did make things a lot easier. In regards to me wanting to write a story about him in my crazy little hockey-writing world…like I mentioned earlier in this blog I don’t know if its going to be a short story or a long one. In the mean time I’ll give you the idea of what I had in mind, though I can tell you it doesn’t really amount too much…yet.

I have a title which is a start, haha. Given it the name: ‘Star of the Night’ so you can guess from that alone I am referring to him playing for the Dallas Stars. I have considered perhaps writing one about when he was still at the Bruins, for now though this will do. So the idea which seems kind of silly actually; so my thought was my main female character is currently in collage, studying a Journalism degree, and part of the learning required is the students taking the class are given the opportunity to learn on the job. In this instance the leading whom has a connection with the Dallas Stars hockey club  and with a bit of negotiation an agreement is reached between the collage (or university) and the club allowing the journalism students to take a hands on role media wise. So where does this leave our female character and the player in question? Well its still up in the air I suppose…due to the title lets assume what we see from the pair is one day and night but will it lead to more? I actually considered calling it ‘Star of the Heart’ instead so…that might indicate its a longer story rather than a short one.

Let’s assume the journalism students are paired off with the players, so they can work with them one on one. Am I going to put my two characters together or have them separated? Either way could certainly be interesting and fun…hehehe. If we have them paired off together then I can see all sorts happening between them, but if separated we will no doubt see some fireworks too. I just keep getting this feeling this is a story that’s gonna be closer to the R18 type hahaha not that I’ve ever written in that fashion, only thought it 😛

Oh, oh I think I have something I can write at this moment…ok here goes….

~~~
‘All right, everyone I want you all to be professional. This is a real working environment and I expect you all to behave this is no time for fun and games. You are getting a rare opportunity to work with these players very closely for two months. Make sure you use your time wisely, many students would love to be in your position so don’t disappoint me.’ Pam remarked to her students and they all nodded in agreement. They were waiting for the players to arrive following practice, Jim told them to wait in the suite above ice level until everyone was ready to meet Pam was anxious it was the first time she decided to use the connection she had with those at the Dallas Stars for her students and she hoped this would turn out well for both parties.
Just then the double doors pushed open and GM Jim Nil strutted through he had a wide smile on his face walking over to Pam.
‘Pam it is lovely to see you again.’ He remarked she smiled in return.
‘You too Jim and thank you so much for giving us this great opportunity,’ she answered they both shook hands Jim nodded his head he looked at the group of students.
‘Kids, I have to say you are a very lucky bunch we don’t normally accept such requests for placements, the NHL is hectic and clubs like ours do not have a lot of spare time. So I encourage you all to enjoy your time with us and can make the most of it, and of course I hope you take a great experience and knowledge,’ he explained.
‘We will sir.’ James Roberts, he’s one of the most studious in the group and has great ambitions of pursuing a media career. He did have the right attitude and knew how to work people to his advantage he had the talent.
‘Glad to hear it.’
A few of the players begun to walk into the suite and while not in their suits they still kept up a great appearance in casual every day wear. Several of the girls in the class couldn’t help letting out an excited yelp at the sight which brought about sniggers from the guys in the class and even some of the players gave a light chuckle used to that kind of reaction.
‘We will leave you all to mingle around, get to know each other after all you will be spending a lot of time around one another.’ Jim said him and Pam headed on out of the suite leaving the students and players to it.
‘Oh my god, oh my god!’ Katrina Rollins gushed she was blushing already, standing next to her Vickie Pearson only rolled her eyes.
‘Can you at least be calm for five minutes?’ she asked.
‘Calm? Are you serious? How am I supposed to be calm look at them! They are so freakin’ cute and like hot as.’ Katrina answered Vickie shook her head she was just about to go and join two other students talking to the Benn brothers when Katrina grabbed her arm.
‘Look at him!’ she exclaimed.
‘Who?’
‘HIM!’
Katrina pointed to another of the players’ whom wasn’t too far away from them he was talking to a couple of the male students Vickie recognised him it brought a smirk to her face.
‘Oh you mean Tyler Seguin?’ she asked Katrina’s eyes widen.
‘You know him?’
I’ll leave it there for now!! Based on this excerpt…what are your thoughts? Do our characters have history, and if so from how far back? Perhaps our female character just happens to be a fan. ah the options, so many options.
Well its getting late so I’m off to bed, possibly to dream of this even more!!!
