So, last night went to the Storm v Broncos match. Billed as the Grand Final Re-match of 2025 it be a big one so you’d think. But to be honest I don’t think the game really lived up to the expectations. Firstly both teams have had some changes to their line up since the Grand Final but for the most part a lot of the players were back.
As we had seen so far this season the Broncos have been absolute shit. And during the entire first half it was really easy to see just how bad they were. The amount of times they were dropping balls…lol it was a comedy showing from them. Is it any wonder they been losing badly? Nope. Based on what I saw during that first half….they were bound to keep losing. However; anyone that is an avid sports fan of any sport knows no team is going to keep losing forever and at some point I time they will turn it all around. So, was it much of a surprise Brisbane did yesterday?? I say no. But the way they magically went about doing it does make me suspicious of it. How do they go from not being able to catch and hold a ball for the first 40minutes to then basically execute near perfection in the second 40minutes ….yeah I don’t think that would happen straight away. They were down 14-0 and suddenly come back out of nowhere to win it 18-14? Come on? Yes I know miracle comebacks do happen and its always fascinating to watch but …this come back really left me pissed off not because Brisbane played better and Melbourne played below average its just the way it happened.
Melbourne, had a pretty decent start and looked like they would make life tough for the Broncos; and while their first 40minutes was not amazing or perfect; it was enough to show they weren’t here to just take it easy. They had a good enough lead and should have gone on with it; but unlike the Broncos in the second half the Storm sort of fell apart. It is honestly hard to describe what happened. In some aspects their defence went limp, their attack got lost and as seems to be a thing the last few years; players start to to get a bit selfish and try to do things on their own; completely forgetting about the team mentality. I won’t point fingers at players because it wasn’t just one player all of them played a part. There are times where in some games in the past you can say it is someone in particular that ruins it.
This team is good enough to make finals but are they good enough to win another NRL Premiership? I’m going to have to say no. I want them to prove me wrong please prove me wrong. The playing group are not bad but they are also not stellar; granted the changes they have had, with others moving on and leaving and not as many coming in the Storm management have some digging to do. This club has produced amazing players for years and years and years. They will need to do it again, however it will require patience and time. How much time? Ask any team be it in the NRL or any other sport and re-building a team to be champions will never happen overnight. Hey if did it would be amazing! The reality however is the opposite.
Based on the game last night however; I don’t see Brisbane repeat their run from 2025. Finals sure, another premiership no. Can they pull it off? Look other teams know what they can do and someone is going to shut them down. We only have to look at the Panthers last year; they too started the year poorly and despite getting it right and making it all the way to the finals second week they failed to go to the Grand Final. Melbourne need to find a way to lift their game just ‘making finals’ is not enough and they should not accept that, yet these past few years it feels (in my honest opinion) they are just happy to always be in the top 8 or Top 4 and get into the finals. I might be wrong in this assumption but it’s how I’ve felt. They cannot accept being second best. Ever. This club is not about being second best or just accepting making into finals. Whatever mind set they got going on that better change. Fast.
I haven’t given thoughts on their performance the previous rounds because they destroyed those teams too easily there wasn’t anything to talk about! LOL.
Anyway onto the next one for the Storm—Broncos no idea what they doing next and don’t care!
